Kill Switch

The emergency stop that halts all trading instantly.

What is the Kill Switch?

The kill switch is an emergency mechanism that immediately stops all trading activity on FutureWallet. When activated, no trades can execute — not manual trades, not assisted persona suggestions, and not autonomous persona trades.

There are two types:

  • Global kill switch — Halts trading for every user on the platform. This is activated by the FutureWallet team in response to platform-wide events.
  • Per-user kill switch — Halts trading for a specific user account. This can be activated by the user or by the platform if unusual activity is detected.

When Does It Activate?

The global kill switch may be activated in response to:

  • Security incidents — A potential vulnerability or breach that requires investigation
  • Market anomalies — Extreme market conditions, flash crashes, or venue outages that could result in bad trades
  • Emergency maintenance — Critical infrastructure updates that require a trading pause
  • Regulatory events — Regulatory actions that require immediate compliance response

Your funds are always safe

The kill switch stops trading — it does not affect your assets. Your tokens remain in your non-custodial wallet, fully under your control. You can still view your portfolio, check prices, and access your wallet. The only thing paused is the ability to execute new trades.

Because your wallet is non-custodial, even if FutureWallet went completely offline, your funds would still be on the blockchain, accessible with your passkey through any compatible wallet app.

How to Check if the Kill Switch is Active

If the kill switch is active, you will know because:

  • A banner appears at the top of the app explaining that trading is paused
  • The chat interface shows a trading paused indicator
  • Attempting to trade produces a clear message about the pause
  • Persona status cards show paused instead of active

When the kill switch is deactivated, trading resumes automatically. You do not need to do anything — the system returns to normal operation.
